Cameron Crookston is in his final year of PhD studies at University of Toronto. His research examines drag, LGBTQ+ historiography, and performance as cultural memory, as well as the overlap between drag performance and trans identities in recent history. He is currently working on an edited volume of essays on the cultural impact of RuPaul’s Drag Race with Intellect Books UK.
Geoffrey Hyland is the Head of Theatre and Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town’s Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies where he has taught since 1990. He has directed and taught internationally, including Canada, England, the USA and New Zealand. He has directed over 120 theatre productions in his career, including dance, opera and cabaret.
Michael Devine (BA Glendon College 1979, MFA Performance 1988) is a theatre director who has worked outside Canada since 1996, in more than 20 countries at national theatres, alternative theatres and as a guest artist at international theatre festivals. His work is primarily site-specific, and uses the actor training and performance creation methodology he developed in 2004, called BoxWhatBox. He can currently be seen on a science fiction TV show called KILLJOYS on Space Channel (Canada) and on SYFY (U.S.), playing a recurring character named Fancy Lee.
Diane Roberts is the founder of the Arrivals Legacy Project, a unique tool for developing multi-media and theatrical works that expose questions of shifting identity during transmigration, and has been the lead workshop facilitator for the past thirteen years.
Sue Edworthy has worked in the non-profit performing arts for nearly twenty years in theatre, dance and opera organizations such as Luminato, Opera Atelier, and Theatre Passe Muraille. She is a 2010 Harold Award recipient and recipient of the CharPR Prize for best publicity 2012 and 2013, and the 2015 recipient of the Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award for Arts Leadership.
In this article Co-Founder and Director of Soma Integrative Wellness, nisha ahuja, shares the connection in her work as an Ayurvedic Medicine and Registered Naturotherapy Practitioner, with her theatre career that included being an actor with the National Arts Centre Resident Acting Company, a published playwright, a physical theatre creator, and educator having performed and created classical, contemporary, and original work and facilitated trainings across Canada, the USA, the Netherlands, and India. Andrew Gaboury works as an artist, educator and artistic director and is based in Port Credit, Ontario. His work includes devised theatre, durational performance, physical improvisation, and clown. He is one of four co-Artistic Directors of hub14 art & performance works, a studio and artist residency in Toronto. He is also the Director of a field of crowns, a performance-based company with an interest in collaboration and community arts. In September 2018, he joined nine other students students in North America’s first Therapeutic Clowning Certificate program at George Brown College
