A Year of Disruption

Each week for the past year, we’ve celebrated by asking 4 Questions of a range of alumni, across all our disciplines. We now have 54 (we can’t count!) accounts from our alumni, who together tell the story of our department, its history, the people within it, and the impact it’s had on our students over the past 50 years.

4 Questions: Elise LaCroix

Elise LaCroix (BA Theatre 2016), specialized in New Play Dramaturgy, Devised Theatre, and Directing. She is currently a dramaturg and theatre academic, having recently completed an MA in Drama at the University of Alberta investigating intercultural new play dramaturgy relationships. Now based in Edmonton, she has further honed her practical dramaturgy skills as a Literary Intern with Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre.

4 Questions: Stéphanie Verge

Stéphanie Verge (B.A. Playwriting and New Play Dramaturgy, 2000) is an editor, journalist and writer based in Montréal. She is the co-editor-in-chief of LSTW, a bilingual magazine for queer women distributed in 10 countries, and the executive editor of the Canadian edition of Reader’s Digest. Previously, Verge served as an associate editor at Toronto Life, where she spearheaded the creation of the magazine’s Culture section, covered the Toronto International Film Festival, and won a National Magazine Award for her health feature about infectious diseases in Ontario hospitals.

4 Questions: Elizabeth Bradley

Elizabeth Bradley (BFA 1976) is an Arts Professor and former Chair of the Department of Drama at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where she has worked for the past decade. Previously, she served as Head of the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University. Before leaving Canada she was CEO of the Hummingbird Centre (now Sony Centre, part of Civic Theatres Toronto). A Broadway League certified theater critic, Bradley reviews Broadway alongside former New York Times critic Charles Isherwood for a new online site for original journalism about the theatre called Broadway.News.

4 Questions: Heather Marie Annis and Amy Lee

Heather Annis and Amy Lee (BFA Theatre, Creative Ensemble 2005) are Co-Artistic Directors of U.N.I.T. Productions, and the performer/creators of the Dora Award and Canadian Comedy Award winning clown duo Morro and Jasp. With their director and dramaturg, Byron Laviolette, they have created, produced, and toured eleven shows including Morro and Jasp: Save The Date, Morro and Jasp in Stupefaction, Morro and Jasp: 9-5.

Spotlight on Faculty: Gavin McDonald

Gavin McDonald has been a Lighting Designer and Production Manager for theatre, dance, music, exhibitions, events, and a bit of opera across the country for over 20 years as well as the United States and UK. Gavin will be joining the faculty of Theatre Department as an Assistant Professor in Lighting and Media Design as of July 1st!

4 Questions: Rohan Kulkarni

Rohan Kulkarni (BA Honours Double Major Theatre & Political Science, 2014) lives and works in Edmonton, Alberta, as dramaturg, academic, arts administrator, public speaker, and instructor. As part of his responsibilities at the Edmonton Opera, he involves people in the arts, be it theatre, music, dance, or opera. He initiates projects, seminars, performances, and collaborations between arts companies to reach new audiences, especially those belonging to diverse communities.
