Natasha Ladouceur (BFA 2008 Acting) hasn’t been acting since she graduated—she works as a Criminal Court Registrar at the Superior Court of Justice in downtown Toronto. But she says that her acting training gave her confidence and an ability to self-evaluate that has taken her far since her days in the studios of the Centre for Film and Theatre.

Spotlight on Faculty: Ines Buchli
Acting-Directing Professor Ines Buchli‘s production of Patricia Gruben’s new play The Secret Doctrine is being mounted from Tuesday to Saturday (July 2 to 6) at Simon Fraser University Woodward’s Theatre in Vancouver, BC. The play deals with an investigation into 19th-century occultist Helena Blavatsky, played by Vancouver actor Gabrielle Rose (pictured).
Macbeth and Taming of the Shrew Now Playing in High Park
MFA directors Ted Witzel and Ker Wells have been busy at the High Park amphitheatre staging their productions of Shakespeare’s classic plays, which are a Canadian Stage production in collaboration with the Department of Theatre in the Faculty of Fine Arts. Macbeth opened July 3, while The Taming of the Shrew opened July 16. Shakespeare in the Park runs to September 1, with shows nightly at 8 pm. Víctor Gómez’s play “Lizardboy” Featured in New Collection
The play Lizardboy by alumnus Víctor Gómez (MFA Acting 2011) will be featured in a new collection of plays from Playwrights Canada Press, Fronteras Vivientes: Eight Latina/o Canadian Plays, edited by Natalie Alvarez. This is the first anthology to showcase the work of established and emerging Latina/o Canadian playwrights.
A New Name: The Graduate Program in Theatre and Performance Studies.
We are pleased to announce that the Graduate Program in Theatre Studies at York is now the Graduate Program in Theatre and Performance Studies.
The change in program and degree name to Theatre and Performance Studies represents the culmination of a multi-year review process that has included the revision of our program sub-fields of specialization, changes to degree requirements, the arrival of new faculty, and the expansion of the graduate program membership to include colleagues from numerous departments across the university. Playwriting Alumni Gather to Read Their Work
Playwrights from the 2011-2012 THEA 4290 Playwriting and Developmental Dramaturgy class have been having ongoing meetings to read their developing playwriting work. They continue to meet under the name “5290” on a regular basis.
