The Ashley Plays are an annual series of short monodramas written and performed by students in the Playwriting & New Play Dramaturgy 4290 class. Each playwright is required to write a monodrama inspired by their assigned site and several given circumstances. The short plays are then developed with class dramaturgs. These site-specific performances will take place in nine locations in the Centre for Film & Theatre. Hamletmachine Mines Shakespeare to Explore Anarchy, Freedom, and Violence

Hamletmachine, directed by Paul Lampert, is Theatre @ York’s first mounted show of the 2014/15 season. Written in 1977, Heiner Muller's postmodern drama is loosely based on Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Theatre@York's adaptation of the text explores revolutions and rebellions from the 1960s to the 2000s. Are there points in our lives when we are Hamlet, raging against the machine that we are a part of? What prompts these rebellions? How do we find identity through rebelling?

The Gathering Project Launches the 2014/2015 Theatre Season @ York

On Tuesday, September 15th, the Acting Conservatory, Devised Theatre, and MFA Theatre students came together in the Joseph G. Green Studio Theatre to perform the 27th annual Gathering Project. Rehearsals for this performance take place during the first week of classes, and the show only runs for one night. What is the Gathering Project?
