Next Steps 2018

As we near the end of the ninth week of the strike, I want to address some of the challenges moving forward.  In particular, I want to share some updated information on the Next Steps process 

In late March, students received an email outlining that there would be posted dates for submissions, auditions and evaluations after classes resumed. However, we understand that students are now leaving for home, summer work and travel and so we have had to make some adjustments in the interests of fairness to all.

Here is the revised information for Next Steps:

  • As you know, the acting area auditions are planned over several evenings in May. Nothing here will change.
  • The FINAL deadline for submissions for Production/Design, Devised Theatre, and Playwriting & New Play Dramaturgy will be one week after the strike is over
  • Notice of Acceptances to ALL streams (including Acting) will be posted one week later.  Please note that these acceptances will be conditional based on final grades (as per usual).
  • You will need to confirm your acceptance to a particular program of study 72 hours later

If you wish to submit your application/portfolio now, you may do so. Information on how to do so is on this page. However, if you would prefer to wait until after the strike is over, you may do that as well. We do, however, encourage you to make sure you’re aware of what is required for each application process and to make the most of the time you have now.

  • Submit your portfolio ELECTRONICALLY to Judith Rudakoff at rudakoff@yorku.ca. The deadline will be one week after the strike is over, though you can do so NOW if you so choose.
  • In the subject line of your email, please use “YOUR SURNAME: Playwriting 3290 Submission’ or ‘YOUR SURNAME: Dramaturgy 3290 Submission’.
  • Please read portfolio requirements outlined carefully, as explained below. Portfolios containing extra or incorrect materials will not be considered.
  • Ensure that your name and a page number appear as a header or footer on each page of your submitted document.
  • Include a title page that clearly shows your name, whether you are applying to Playwriting or Dramaturgy,
  • Include the following on the title page: In 2018-2019 I will be in my XXX year of the program. (For example, if you will be in third year of the Theatre program, the XXX would be replaced with “THIRD”)

DEVISED THEATRE

To learn about devising and performing original theatre pieces.

For this year, we would like to invite all those interested in Auditioning for DT to submit a Video of their 1 minute DT Audition Piece. 

Once again, these are the guidelines for the audition.

Prepare a short piece (Performance/Experience/Installation) that creatively recreates a moment or idea from one of this year’s devised festival productions from your own point of view using the following criteria:

• Include your full name
• max (10) ten words (no min)
• max (3) three props (no min)
• max (1) one minute length (strict)
• costumes are optional. Additional lighting or media are optional, but each device will count as props. (removed 10 sec set-up)
• a piece may or may NOT include you as a live performer, but if your piece does have a live performer, only you may fill the role
• BE CREATIVE
Finish your video with Max 2 minutes describing the best collaborative/creative experience you’ve had. What was good about this experience? What was challenging, and why? How did you manage the stress of collaborative creation.

Please feel free to get together with your colleagues to help each other out with videoing, creating, playing.

PRODUCTION/DESIGN

To study in the areas of Theatre Design (set, costume, lighting, sound and media/projections), Construction (costume, scenery, and props) and Management (production management, technical direction and stage management).

The Production and Design Area will no longer be holding in-person interviews to gain access to the area for next year. Please email your application letter, your resume, and a digital portfolio to Associate Professor James McKernan at mckernan@yorku.ca .
If you have already submitted a paper copy of your application letter and resume to Professor McKernan, we would ask you to resubmit it as a digital file to help the area view your applications remotely.
We will accept applications now and please note applications will continue to be accepted until after the strike is resolved, whereupon a final deadline will be established.
What you are submitting:
  • A letter of application outlining why you wish to pursue studies in this area, which particular disciplines are of interest, and indicating previous relevant experience.
  • A resume—same requirements as previously discussed
  • A digital portfolio. A portfolio is a grouping of work that shows some or all of the following: a series of images that show breadth of abilities, a person’s growth in the area being discussed, a specific work that exemplifies a certain interest or talent that is seen to be valuable and/or anything else you wish to share. The digital aspect simply means you take pictures of these items and email them to Professor McKernan.

ACTING CONSERVATORY

To specialize in acting for the stage.

In the interests of fairness, we have decided to hold our Next Steps Auditions over the course of 4 evenings,  May 9, 11, 14, and 15, with Callbacks held on the evening of May 16. Each evening will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will take place in ACE 207 and 209.

VIDEO SUBMISSION

We recognize that some students will not be able to participate in ANY of these dates, due to travel, summer jobs, etc. For those students only, you may audition by electronic submission.

VIDEO GUIDELINES

Begin by introducing yourself  with

  • your FULL NAME
  • your year (first year, etc.)

Then, film yourself (whole body) doing two Roll Downs, first facing the camera, and then from the side.

Then perform each of your monologues (filmed from the waist up).

Introduce each monologue with

  • the name of the play
  • the name of the character.

You should place your imaginary “scene partner” just to the left of where the camera is. You may stand or be seated; if you must, you may use one prop. No mime, please.

Finally, sing/act your song (again, filmed from the waist up).

Introduce your song with

  • the name of the song
  • the song’s composer

Due Date: We will accept videos on a rolling basis, with a final deadline of  midnight on May 8th. CHANGE OF DEGREE FROM BA TO BFA

Students who proceed into Production/Design or the Acting Conservatory are required to complete the online Change of Degree request to switch from Honours BA to Honours BFA. This request is available at http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/program/change/. Change of degree requests must be submitted no later than June 30 to take effect the next fall/winter session.

Acceptance into any area/series of courses is conditional upon final grades as of the end of the Winter 2018 term.

Performance Creation & Research

If you want to become a professional playwright, dramaturg, theatre critic, director, playmaker,theatre educator, drama therapist,researcher, arts manager, theatre/performance activist, performance artist, or are interested in pursuing studies at the graduate level (MA/PhD), then PERFORMANCE CREATION & RESEARCH IS FOR YOU!

It is expected that students in PERFORMANCE CREATION & RESEARCH, including those in the two-and-a half-year sequence of Theatre Survey courses, will acquire, and be able to demonstrate:

  1. Sound knowledge of the history of theatre and performance, the forms and practices and social contexts of theatre through the ages and in different cultures, including knowledge of influential critical formulations, manifestos, and theoretical frameworks;
  2. Understanding of the ways in which theatre and performance have mattered and had meaning in different societies and eras, and of the ways in which it can matter and have meaning here and now;
  3. Familiar working knowledge of, and ability to analyse, a substantial number of plays and performance texts from the conventional canon and beyond, including plays from outside the western tradition, together with the ability to write about performance critically and appreciatively;
  4. Vivid imaginative realization of the potential in dramatic scripts for the production of new meanings in contemporary performance;
  5. Ability to apply knowledge and research capacity to the task of serving as dramaturg on productions of plays from earlier epochs;
  6. Active and detailed knowledge of the history and present state of theatre, drama, and performance in Canada.

Second year

Third year

Required courses:

  • THEA 3200 3.0 Modern Theatre and Society
  • 1 (one) 3.0 credit 3000 or 4000 level Theatre Studies seminar course

Theatre Studies courses in areas of specific interest are the focus of third and fourth years. It is expected that some students will also have begun to pursue interdisciplinary interests, combining theatre with such other fields as Education, Psychology, Anthropology, English or Religious Studies. Students in second year may be able, with permission, to take 3000-level courses.

Third year is an important transition year for Theatre Studies students. Those looking to pursue a graduate degree (MA/PhD) in Theatre Studies or prepare for a professional career as a playwright, dramaturg, playmaker, theatre critic, theatre/performance activist, performance artist, or theatre educator, are strongly encouraged (and in some cases, required) to take specialized seminar courses in their areas of interest.

In addition, students may take courses from 4000 level offerings, with the appropriate prerequisites.

All students must complete either THEA 3150 3.0 Theatre Management or THEA 4150 3.0 Theatre Career Management in order to graduate.

Fourth year

The fourth year is an exciting culminating year for Theatre Studies students. By the end of the fourth year, students have a firm grasp on a wide range of skills that will prepare them to enter the professional theatre world or graduate studies. Those looking to pursue a graduate degree (MA/PhD) in Theatre and Performance Studies or prepare for a professional career as a playwright, dramaturg, theatre maker, theatre critic, or theatre educator, are strongly encouraged to take seminar courses in their area of specialization.

Playwriting & New Play Dramaturgy

Requirements for submissions 2018 – 2019

For Playwrights:

  1. A monologue of no more than two pages (double-­‐spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt.) that begins with the following words: “It’s so cold, and I don’t know what to do with it.”
  1. Maximum two pages (double-­‐spaced), in note form, contextualizing this monologue by identifying the geographical location of the monologue (introduce the world of the piece), the date/time/era in which it occurs (be as specific as possible), who the character is, to whom the character is speaking and why they are speaking to this person, and briefly explain what has occurred the moment before the character begins to speak to incite them to do so.
  1. An excerpt of maximum two pages from a play you have recently written or are writing. DO NOT SUBMIT LONGER EXCERPTS. Choose the two pages you feel showcases your voice as a writer today, here and now. Do not submit old work created more than a year ago or as part of a high school program! This is not about judging final draft “quality” but rather identifying individual voice and ability to express that voice in a particular and unique way.
  1. A statement (maximum one page, double‐spaced) that identifies the playwright who has inspired you the most and explains why, and/or your favourite theatre company and explains why you have chosen them. If you have a favourite director, you may also include this information. Do not refer to movies, novels, television shows!

For Dramaturgs:

  1. Choose any contemporary play (written by a professional playwright) with which you are familiar and write the playwright a formal letter explaining what you, as a dramaturg, believe works well in her/his play and what might be further developed before rehearsals begin. Be as specific as possible and include THREE questions about the work that you would like to see explored more in the imaginary “next draft” or that you believe are not fully realized in the script. The questions might focus on the world of the play, on character development, on narrative/plot or on action (Maximum one page, double‐spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt.).
  1. In one simple, clear sentence, delineate the IDEA of the play (do not tell the story or plot of the play: create a statement that encapsulates what the writer wants the reader/audience to carry away as a statement, an idea).

All material submitted should be in Times New Roman font, 12 pt., double­‐spaced where indicated. Please ensure  that  each  page is numbered and has your name on it as a Header (headers and numbers may be in 8 pt.). A cover page for the portfolio should include: your name, your current year of study, your declared major, and indicate whether you are applying as a Playwright or a Dramaturg. Include the following on the title page:  In 2018-19 I will be in my XXX year of the program. (For example, if you will be in third year of the Theatre program, the XXX would be replaced with “THIRD”)

Devised Theatre

Devised Theatre

Nested within the Performance Creation & Research (PCR) area in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design is a series of classes called Devised Theatre (DT), which offers students an intensive curriculum in devising and performing original theatre pieces. This interdisciplinary sequence is overseen and taught by faculty from all three areas of the department: Acting, Production and Performance Creation and Research (PCR).

The goals of the Devised Theatre series are:

  • to deepen students’ historical and interdisciplinary understanding of devised theatre
  • to expose students to a variety of methods for devising theatre in group contexts
  • to train students to work in multiple areas of theatrical production
  • to build original works that are presented in the Devised Theatre Festival

The DT sequence begins with an immersion in the history and theory of devising. This grounding is provided through readings and assignments on collaborative playmaking and contemporary experimental theatre. Third-year courses in Devised Theatre explore methodologies of creating, rehearsing and presenting assigned projects from a variety of starting points. Collaborative ability, communication skills, imagination and risk-taking are the foundations for these rigorous courses. The final year in the DT sequence results in fully mounted original works presented in the Devised Theatre Festival.

Accessible and recommended to students taking Devised Theatre are a wide range of courses, including Playwriting and New Play Dramaturgy, Scene Study for Theatre Studies, History of Ensemble Theatre, Contemporary Canadian Theatre and Aspects of Directing. With the exception of Production Practicum, all Theatre production/design courses are available to Devised Theatre students as well. Many DT students apply to assistant-direct both unmounted and mounted Department of Theatre productions for Performance Practicum.

Courses selected from other AMPD programs (Cinema & Media Arts, Computational Arts, Dance, Design, Music, Visual Arts/Art History ) and non-AMPD courses are required for degree completion and will enable students to develop breadth and interdisciplinary skills.

The DT series of courses is available to Theatre majors in the 120 credit BA Specialized Honours Theatre Studies only. They are not available to students in the Acting Conservatory or Production/Design. It is strongly recommended that students in Devised Theatre seek academic advising before each year of study to ensure accurate and appropriate degree management for successful completion of the 120-credit Specialized Honours BA degree (Performance Creation & Research).

Acceptance into THEA 2050 3.0 Introduction to Devised Theatre does not guarantee entrance into further upper-level Devised Theatre classes. Admission into each subsequent Devised Theatre course is on the basis of a ‘B’ standing in the prerequisite class.

Criteria for Entry into Devised Theatre

  • Prerequisites: THEA 1010 3.0, THEA 1100 3.0, and THEA 1200 6.0
  • Grade minimum: Offers of placement to Devised Theatre are conditional, pending final grades at the end of the winter term, based on a satisfactory 5.0 (C+) overall grade point average. A student who fails any of THEA 1010 3.0 Introduction to Acting I, THEA 1100 3.0 Introduction to Stagecraft I or THEA 1200 6.0 Introduction to Theatre and Performance will not be allowed to audition.

Audition

Second Year

THEA 2050 3.0 Introduction to Devised Theatre I

Introduction to Devised Theatre I offers students an introduction to the devising of original theatre in a collaborative setting. Through classroom exercises and the creation, rehearsal and presentation of devised and interpreted performance projects, the participants will explore the essential questions and investigative tools of the theatre practitioner. Practical studio course. Note: Plus rehearsal hours. Prerequisites: 5.0 (C+) overall grade point average. Passing Grade in THEA 1010 3.0 Introduction to Acting I, THEA 1100 3.0 Introduction to Stagecraft I and THEA 1200 6.0 Introduction to Theatre and Performance. Open to majors only.

THEA 2051 3.0 Introduction to Devised Theatre II

Introduction to Devised Theatre II affords students a continued introduction to the devising of theatre in all aspects, from conception to execution. Classroom exercises and performance project assignments will deepen the exploration of the processes and skills of the theatre practitioner. Practical studio course. Note: Plus rehearsal hours. Prerequisites: Grade of B or better in FA/THEA 2050 3.00 and permission of the Theatre Department. Open to majors only.

Other required courses in second year:

  • THEA 2200 6.0 History of Theatre and Performance
  • THEA 2210 3.0 Theatre and Social Justice

Highly recommended courses in second year:

  • THEA 2410 6.0 History of Visual Sources
  • THEA 2141 3.0 Introduction to Design for Theatre
  • It is strongly recommended that students in Devised Theatre take courses that fulfill their in-out requirements in second year. In particular, students should consider taking non-theatre courses that will enhance their understanding of performance creation (see course listings in other AMPD departments).

Preparation for third year:

At end of second year, each student should meet with their faculty advisor to discuss specific areas of interest in devising theatre (design, directing, acting, writing etc.). This will help students to choose upper-level courses that are of interest to them, and help to shape the production companies in fourth year that will draw upon specific areas of expertise. Framed by the requirements of the Specialized Honours BA degree, students are free to pursue a particular focus or continue to learn about all areas of theatre.

Students may apply to assistant-direct an unmounted department production in third year: THEA 3070 3.0 Performance Practicum I for the fall term or THEA 3071 3.0 Performance Practicum II for the winter term. Applications are available to prospective third year students through the Program Assistant in CFT 322 at the end of the winter term.

Third Year

FA/THEA 3050 3.00   Devised Theatre in Practice I

Devised Theatre Practice I rigorously develops the processes and skills of devising and interpreting theatre works within a collaborative context. In classroom exercises, and through the rehearsal and presentations of assigned projects, students will explore and practice the creative approaches of the theatre practitioner. Practical studio course. Note: Plus rehearsal hours. Prerequisites: Grade of B or better in FA/THEA 2051 3.00 and permission of the Theatre Department. Open to majors only.

FA/THEA 3051 3.00   Devised Theatre in Practice II

Devised Theatre in Practice II builds on the processes and skills investigated in FA/THEA 3050 3.00. This practical studio course offers students further opportunities to practice the creation and presentation of devised theatre pieces in a collaborative setting. Classroom exercises and assigned presentations will prepare participants for the Devised Theatre Festival in FA/THEA 4050 3.00 and FA/THEA 4051 3.00. Practical studio course. Note: Plus rehearsal hours. Prerequisites: Grade of B or better in FA/THEA 3050 3.00 and permission of the Theatre Department. Open to majors only.

Note: Every other year, students in THEA 3050 3.0 may be asked to participate in the MA/PhD course, THST 5010 3.0 Theatre Laboratory (subject to the course being offered). In this class, graduate student directors create research-based artworks. The undergraduate students will join a research team and explore a set of research questions through performance.

Other required courses in third year:

  • THEA 3200 3.0 Modern Theatre and Society
  • An additional 3.0 credits in Theatre, non-studio offerings at the 3000 or 4000 level must be taken in either third year or fourth year
  • All students must complete either THEA 3150 3.0 Theatre Management or THEA 4150 3.0 Theatre Career Management in order to graduate. THEA 3150 3.0 Theatre Management is highly recommended for Devised Theatre students, especially in their third year of study.

Recommended courses in third and fourth year:

Preparation for fourth year:

Applications for THEA 4485 3.0 Aspects of Directing will be made available to prospective fourth year students through the Program Assistant in CFT 322 at the end of the winter term. Any student enrolled in THEA 4485 3.0 Aspects of Directing in fourth year may also choose to assistant direct a mounted department production by registering in the appropriate Performance Practicum (THEA 4070 3.0 in the fall term or THEA 4071 3.0 in the winter term). The course director for THEA 4485 3.0 will assign the appropriate co-requisite: THEA 4070 3.0 Performance Practicum III in the fall term or THEA 4071 3.0 Performance Practicum IV in the winter term.

Fourth Year

FA/THEA 4050 3.00   Devised Theatre PerspectivesIn fourth year, students form production companies and work on performance projects that are workshopped in the fall term and presented in the Devised Theatre Festival in the winter term. In accordance with the self-reliant nature of this series of classes, students will participate fully in all aspects of the collaborative devising of theatre in these presentations, from conception to execution.

Devised Theatre Perspectives offers students an intensive curriculum in further perspectives of devised theatre exploration. Incorporating skill sets from the previous two years of training, this class will focus on advanced techniques for creating and performing original theatre works in a group setting, in preparation for performance in the Devised Theatre Festival in the winter term. Prerequisites: Grade of B or better in FA/THEA 3051 3.00 and permission of the Theatre Department. Open to majors only.

FA/THEA 4051 3.00   Devised Theatre Workshop

Devised Theatre Workshop offers an opportunity for students to further consolidate their training with detailed preparations of their original works for public performances in the Devised Theatre Festival at the end of the term. In accordance with the self-reliant nature of this series of classes, students will participate fully in all aspects of the collaborative devising of theatre in these presentations, from conception to execution, with minimal dependence on external technical support. Prerequisites: Minimum of B in FA/THEA 4050 3.00 and permission of the department. Open to majors only. Note: Plus rehearsal hours.

Any student who leaves the Devised Theatre series of courses, for whatever reason, even if in good academic standing, is not guaranteed a spot in subsequent terms. Re-entry will be with permission by the Department.

Production and Design

The Production/Design Area offers the interested, capable, and committed student the opportunity to study in the areas of Theatre Design (set, costume, lighting, sound and media/projections); Construction (costume, scenery, and props); Management (production management, technical direction and stage management); and Technology (electrical, audio, and video systems and control). The Production/Design area also prides itself on its commitment and leadership in training students about issues of sustainability in performance. The required series of Production Practicum assignments provide opportunities in all aspects of production and design for live performance, themed environments, and exhibition. Please note that students are expected to participate in more than one specialization. This allows both intense study in a specific discipline and broader exposure to other disciplines within Production and Design. Required courses are listed below. Students pursuing design are required to take co-requisites courses in the area. All students are encouraged to consider the complementary In-Faculty/Out-of-Major courses. Criteria for entry into Production and Design

Candidates for the Production/Design Stream must meet all academic criteria for entry into second-year Theatre, including satisfactory completion with a C+ average of all required first-year theatre courses and satisfactory progress in completing University required courses. Students must have demonstrated a potential for success in the Production/Design Area, including the ability to work well with others and participate fully in first-year classes and crews.

The Production and Design Area will no longer be holding in-person interviews to gain access to the area for next year. 

Candidates must send a letter of intent, a digital portfolio, and a resume to James McKernan at mckernan@yorku.ca.

If you have already submitted a paper copy of your application letter and resume to Professor McKernan, we would ask you to resubmit it as a digital file to help the area view your applications remotely.
We will accept applications now and please note applications will continue to be accepted until after the strike is resolved, whereupon a final deadline will be established.
What you are submitting:
  • A letter of application outlining why you wish to pursue studies in this area, which particular disciplines are of interest, and indicating previous relevant experience.
  • A resume—same requirements as previously discussed
  • A digital portfolio. A portfolio is a grouping of work that shows some or all of the following: a series of images that show breadth of abilities, a person’s growth in the area being discussed, a specific work that exemplifies a certain interest or talent that is seen to be valuable and/or anything else you wish to share. The digital aspect simply means you take pictures of these items and email them to Professor McKernan.

  • The FINAL deadline for submissions for Production/Design, Devised Theatre, and Playwriting & New Play Dramaturgy will be one week after the strike is over.
  • Notice of Acceptances to ALL streams (including Acting) will be posted one week later.  Please note that these acceptances will be conditional based on final grades (as per usual).

Second Year

Stresses skills in a number of areas and responsibility for specific areas of crew work.

Third Year

Further acquisition of basic skills and the start of exploration into design for the theatre. There will be some separation and development of ability and talent.

  • THEA 3101 6.0 Production Practicum II
  • THEA 3200 3.0 Modern Theatre and Society

Additional 6.0 credits in 3000 or 4000 level courses, of which at least 3.0 credits must be in the Production/Design Area.

All students must complete either THEA 3150 3.0 Theatre Management or THEA 4150 3.0 Theatre Career Management in order to graduate.

Fourth Year

Continuing a pursuit of excellence, students may concentrate in any or several production/design disciplines. Students may be given major production assignments as part of the Production Practicum.

Production Practicum is required of any third or fourth year production student taking the equivalent of 1.5 or more production courses in an academic year. Production Practicum requires production meetings of two hours per week, plus evening and weekend crews as assigned.

CHANGE OF DEGREE FROM BA TO BFA

Students who proceed in Production/Design are required to complete the online Change of Degree request to switch from Honours BA to Honours BFA. This request is available at http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/program/change/. Change of degree requests must be submitted no later than June 30 to take effect the next fall/winter session.

Acting Conservatory

Students are expected be prepared for the audition process as follows:

Material

  1. Each student must prepare two memorized contrasting contemporary monologues (from published plays with professional productions only) and a song (any genre). Students are advised to choose material that reflects their strengths and does not go beyond their age range. No dialects or accents. Read the plays in their entirety. Each monologue should be no longer than one and a half minutes.
  2. Your song is to be sung without any live or recorded accompaniment. Apply the same acting guidelines to the song as you would to your monologues—to a person in a place for a reason. The song should be under one minute in length.

Procedure

  1. In order to audition for the second year Acting Conservatory, students must successfully complete THEA 1010 3.0 (with a grade of B or better) and have passed THEA 1100 3.0. Any student who successfully auditions but fails THEA 1200 6.0 will not be accepted into the Acting Conservatory.

    You do not need to submit a Letter of Intent or Resume.

  3.  You must be present for the entire block of time which you have signed up for. The panel will include Acting Area faculty.
  4. Come at least half an hour before your scheduled time. You may warm-up quietly in ACE 209: no loud vocal exercises or conversation please. This room is reserved for those preparing, so please use the studio respectfully for that purpose.
  5. Clothing: do not dress ”for the part”; please wear close-­fitting clothes that you can move in comfortably (no jeans please); no jewelry; all loose hair must be tied back off the face; no hats; bare feet; minimal “street” make‐up if any at all.
  6. Props: generally, try to avoid them altogether; one prop may be used, if absolutely necessary. Do not use mime. We will supply a chair for your use.
  7. There will be a brief group warm-­up. You should then expect to perform one of your monologues (the one you feel most comfortable with) and some of the song within your scheduled block of time. There may also be a group session with improvisations.
  8. Do not be surprised if you are stopped during your piece or your song. If you are asked to do something entirely different with your piece, we may just be trying to discover your capacity for redirection.

Acting Conservatory Callbacks: Wednesday, May 16.

  1. A list of callback candidates will be posted to our callback webpage. You must memorize both roles of the provided neutral scene that you can find at the bottom of that page.
  2. Callbacks will be held on May 16th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. You must be present for the entire block of time for which you have been assigned.  ACE 209 will be available for your use one half-­hour before the scheduled start. Please bring a snack, water and reading material.
  3. Candidates will be asked to do their second monologue (one and a half minutes maximum). You may be requested to stop.
  1.   There will also be a group session utilizing improvisations. 
  1.   Only full-time Acting Conservatory faculty members will be at the callback sessions.
  1.   The Acting Conservatory auditions are confidential. Panel members (including your instructors and course directors) will not provide feedback or discuss the rationale for placement with candidates.

Offers of placement are conditional, pending final grades of the 2018 winter term, based on a satisfactory C+ academic average and meeting the requirements and deadlines of the Department of Theatre.
